Physical Req.
Moderate. Driving a buggy over rough tracks needs alertness and basic strength; passengers need to hold on over bumpy terrain.
Beyond the resort beaches, much of Curaçao is dry, open kunuku (countryside) crossed by rough tracks, and an ATV or buggy tour is the way to explore it. Guided convoys head into the rugged west of the island, linking the old plantation country of the interior with secluded leeward coves that are hard to reach any other way.
The driving is the fun: dusty trails, dramatic coastal viewpoints, and stops to swim at a quiet beach or look out over the wild north coast. Tours typically run as a guided group with a lead and tail vehicle, so you stay on route and on safe ground, and most include the gear you need. You drive your own buggy or ride along, depending on the operator and your licence.
Routes often run toward Westpunt and the beaches of Bandabou. Wear clothes and closed shoes you do not mind getting dusty, bring sunglasses and sun protection, and book a morning slot to beat the strongest heat.
